Shelter in Place

Volunteers from Sherwin Alumina, OxyChem and DuPont give presentations to schools and the general public on what to do if a dangerous chemical is ever accidentally spilled or released in their neighborhood.

Wally Wise Guy, the Coastal Plain LEPC's Mascot loves to appear at community events and schools to help teach children how to Shelter In Place when a chemical alert has been given.

The HazMan shows kids how emergency personnel dress in a time of chemical release.

Wally Wise helps explains to the children how they can protect themselves in the event of a chemical release. There are five steps to remember when Sheltering in Place, go inside, close and seal all doors and windows, turn off heaters and air conditioners and close fireplace dampers, listen to your radio or TV and wait for the all clear signal before you move outside.

Brandon Luttrell is the emcee for the program. He is shown describing what should be in your Shelter in Place Kit.

The children learn how to properly seal the doors and windows.

If you would like to request an appearance by Wally and his friends, call the Coastal Plain LEPC office at (361) 364-6208 x103.
